Ukrainian navy HQ in Sevastopol overtaken by pro-Russian units

FXStreet (Łódź) - On Wednesday, mostly unarmed “self-defence” units took control of the Ukrainian navy headquarters in Crimea's Sevastopol and raised Russian flags over the building.

In response, Ukraine's acting Defence Minister Ihor Tenyukh declared that Ukrainian forces would not withdraw from the region. There is a truce in place between Russia and Ukraine in Crimea, which will last until March 21.

Following Vladimir Putin's speech before parliament yesterday in which he declared Crimea and Sevastopol as part of Russia and the subsequent signing of the draft bill for the annexation of Crimea, Ukrainian military facilities on the peninsula were declared illegal.
