Wall Street opens modestly lower on Thursday

Major equity indexes in the U.S. started the day in the negative territory on Thursday following mixed macroeconomic data releases from the United States. As of writing, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was losing 0.25% on the day while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite were erasing 0.3% and 0.38%, respectively.

Among the 11 major S&P 500 sectors, which are all in the negative territory in the early trade, real estate and communications are leading the losses while financials is trying to turn flat on the day near. 

  • US: Durable goods orders rose 1.2% in December vs 1.5% expected.
  • US: Initial weekly jobless claims decreased by 23,000 to 216,000.
  • Philly Fed Manufacturing Index plummets to -4.1 in February from 17 in January.

USD/CAD turns flat on the day below 1.32 ahead of PMI data

The USD/CAD pair struggled failed to hold above the 1.32 mark and erased its gains to turn flat on the day. As of writing, the pair was trading at 1.3
